Silicon Metal – Federal Court of Appeal decision

In Rio Tinto Inc. v. Québec Silicon Limited, the Federal Court of Appeal dismissed an application for judicial review of a determination by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal. The Tribunal had determined that silicon metal originating from China was threatening to cause injury to the Canadian producer of silicon metal.  The respondent in the appeal, Québec Silicon, a subsidiary of Globe Specialty Metals, was represented by Conlin Bedard LLP.

News January 2015:

Rebar - Domestic industry wins anti-dumping and countervailing duty case

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal determined that the Canadian rebar industry was threatened by dumped and subsidized rebar imports from China, Korea and Turkey. As a result, anti-dumping and countervailing duties will be applied to rebar imports from these three countries for an initial five-year period. Canadian rebar producers ArcelorMittal Montreal and AltaSteel were represented by Conlin Bedard LLP.

CGI Procurement Challenge

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal determined that Canada Post failed to comply with its obligations under NAFTA regarding a procurement for application development services. The Tribunal made several recommendations, including that all bidders' technical proposals be re-evaluated by a new team of evaluators. The challenge to Canada Post's procurement process was filed by CGI Information Systems and Management Consultants Inc., who was represented by Conlin Bedard LLP.
